Lights, camera, Fleetwood - CineWyre brings award-winning films to Marine Hall
BAFTA winners and Oscar nominated films are set to take Fleetwood by storm in the four-day CineWyre Film Festival. The festival invites both seasoned film lovers and first-time festival goers to dive into an exciting programme of screenings and events.
Audiences can explore four strands, Documentary, Family Friendly, Horror / Thriller and LGBTQ+ alongside special international selections showcasing some of the best new films from across the globe. Local storytelling also takes centre stage with screenings such as Opal of the North, a portrait of Blackpool’s colourful characters, and End to End, followed by a discussion with filmmaker Anton Arenko about the film’s role in campaigning to save the Knott End Ferry.
Oscar nominated short films Jane Austen’s Period Drama, and hard-hitting Rock Paper Scissors, will also screen for audiences to see.
Each strand will feature brand-new work, with awards presented for Best Film in each category, alongside honours for Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and more.
Thursday and Friday are dedicated to education, inviting sixth form, college, and university students to explore bold storytelling across documentary, genre, and LGBTQ+ cinema. With daytime screenings, filmmaker Q&As, and hands-on masterclasses, the festival offers a valuable opportunity for learners in media, performing arts, and humanities to deepen their understanding of film as a catalyst for conversation and change. Tickets for under-25s are just £5.
Saturday and Sunday shift to a public and community focus. From morning family films to genre showcases spanning horror, international cinema, and LGBTQ+ stories, the weekend invites cinephiles, creative professionals, freelancers, community groups, and cultural organisations to come together, discover new voices, and be inspired.
Councillor Lynne Bowen Leisure, Health & Community Engagement Portfolio Holder at Wyre Council said,
“It is an exciting time to welcome original and independent filmmaking voices to the heart of Fleetwood, the beautiful Marine Hall. With something for all the community to enjoy”.
Festival Director Ed Greenberg commented,
“CineWyre is all about celebrating creativity, championing new talent, and bringing powerful stories to audiences who may not otherwise have access to independent film. We’re thrilled to shine a spotlight on both global voices and homegrown filmmakers, and to create a festival that feels welcoming, inspiring, and distinctly rooted in Fleetwood.”
